Sometimes, when the world seems to be crumbling around us, and no words of encouragement can make a difference, the affection from a dog can make all the difference.
In fact, since the inception of HOPE Animal Assisted Crisis Response in 2000, “comfort” dogs have been used to support survivors and responders in many emergencies, including the World Trade Center bombings and Hurricane Katrina. More recently, comfort dog teams were called in to support the communities and families who lost 19 loved ones during the June wildfire in Arizona.
