HOPE was asked to visit OCFA dispatchers after a couple months of stressful OT shifts and calls. Our presence is always a big hit with the dispatchers and staff. During our visits, there always seems to be a stressful call that comes in. Last night was no exception. One call was a teen who was overdosing. The dispatchers received several calls on several lines reference the teen. Each dispatcher was getting conflicting information. The dispatchers had to piece together the fragmented information in order to dispatch live saving information to their firefighters. Our teams stayed till 8:00 pm to cover both sides of the shifts to maximize our visit.
