Vestaburg Middle School - Unexpected Student Death (MI)

HOPE received word of a unexpected student death on 1/15/2020 in the evening. The death occurred in Vestaburg, Michigan, a small rural community north of Lansing. The middle /high school principal reached out to HOPE for teams to report to the school on 1/16 to assist counselors. Keena Jones and Bella were already in Lansing for an event on 1/15/2020. Calls were placed and two additional teams were able to deploy for 1/16/2020. The teams were directed to report to the school at 8:45 am. The teams were stationed in the Library along with the counselors. The counselors set up 4 areas in the Library for students, 3 of which had a HOPE team. Counselors were also prepared to see students one on one in a private area across the hall. Students were brought in by grades. Counselors spoke with small groups of students in the Library.
