Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women "Voices Unheard" (MI)

Start Date: 05/20/2022

Description:

This was an evening dedicated to remembering missing and murdered Indigenous relatives, including others in our country. It began with a reception area of tables which represented various items of information. HOPE had one of these tables. Many people stopped to pet our dogs and some inquired about our organization. A few took the information pamphlets. The evening continued to the school's theater where a Native American prayer, drums and singing began the program. A 23 minute docudrama about this MMIR Crisis called "Voices Unheard" was presented. Afterwards, a UTFAV Community Outreach Specialist and an ARC Cultural Healing Educator spoke about the legal difficulties throughout US history up to today concerning missing and murdered Indigenous people. The evening was completed with a candle vigil with drum/song interlude and a few words from two speakers.
