We visited this Dispatch Center mostly to introduce ourselves. We experienced an overwhelming acceptance by the directors as well as the dispatchers. We look forward to this being the first of many visits which will include all three different shifts. There is a real need for providing comfort to the dispatchers. We all know there is a high suicide rate among police officers as well as firefighters. What we didn’t know is there is also a high suicide rate in dispatchers too. In fact, we met a dispatcher who recently became head of a Peer Support Group which will address this issue. She was extremely interested in HOPE and looks forward to working with us.
