Airport Emergency Preparedness Event (IL)

Start Date: 09/28/2017

Description:

This was the first time an emergency preparedness event at Chicago O'Haire Airport was aimed at the traveling public. We were located on a busy corner of a large corridor in Terminal 2 by United Airlines. Tamara strategically placed us so as to attract as many people as possible to the event. Our dogs received constant attention. We were able to connect with FEMA, Red Cross, OEM/Chicago and the Salvation Army. OEM does monthly training and expressed the desire to have HOPE come to do in-service training about the role of Comfort Dogs in a disaster setting. We met many members of the traveling public who had therapy dogs, we were able to pass out quite a few HOPE brochures and explain the mission of HOPE to 100s of people. Event was considered a success.
