MA VOAD Meeting
Start Date: 2019/09/09Description: This was the quarterly in-person meeting of Massachusetts VOAD held at the MA Emergency Management Agency headquarters bunker. Response to the Cape Cod tornado was reviewed: VOAD was not deployed until a week after the tornado; then the primary VOAD assistance was 63 chain saw jobs, assisting 104 elderly clients through the MA Department on Aging. Several of our ARC regional staff are deployed to long-term recovery in South Carolina. I reported on HOPE teams deployed to FEMA HQ NRCC and FEMA Philadelphia Regional Response Coordination Center. An on-line app is up and running for member organizations to detail their activities and specific needs for volunteers, in order to register and train unaffiliated volunteers who want to help. ARC and Team Rubicon observed that, in the event of a major hurricane here, MA has no substantial shelter or trained shelter workers. Several member organizations volunteered to address this issue.
