MA VOAD remote meeting

Start Date: 2020-05-11

Description: This was a remote video meeting, primarily COVID-related. There are now over 50,000 cases and 5,000 deaths in MA. Main current issues are feeding security, providing meals and distributing food. The Salvation Army has distributed over 1 million meals and 100,000 diapers. The state has opened seven Isolation and Recovery Centers in hotels across the state. Team Rubicon members are serving there. MAVOAD members are providing durable medical equipment at those centers—wheelchairs, canes, walkers, commodes.... There is a request for help with funeral and burial expenses—FEMA has no resources for this. There is no federal Supplemental Cares Act funding for this; discussions continue in the attempt to obtain federal support. MA VOAD is using Galaxy Digital Volunteer Management Software—claiming its much more advanced than what National VOAD uses.
