Corry Middle School student death in fire

Start Date: 2020-10-19

Description: We were asked to deploy on Monday 10/19 to assist with the students after a 9th grader died in a house fire. We were able to visit with students in small groups and COVID procedures were follow. We were able to spend a great deal of time with the 2 brothers and cousins of the student. After having a great response we were asked to return on Thursday 10/22 (the day following the funeral) for 1/2 day to spend time with the students who had a difficult time at the funeral. The crisis counselor was very happy with the students response. We were told that the 7th grade brother had not spoke about the fire or losing his sister but after spending a great deal of time with the HOPE dogs he was able to talk to his family that evening. He told is parents that spending the time with our dogs is what gave him the ability to talk to them.
