Student Death, Evart, MI

Start Date: 06/11/2019

A kindergarten student was hit and killed by a pickup truck. HOPE teams were requested by the school shortly after they were notified of the accident. We responded the next morning. Since we had been to Evart High School the previous February for another student death, the school, counselors, and the crisis response team were familiar with HOPE and we all worked together nicely. We met with the counselors and staff before the students arrived to plan the day. This was the last day of school and only a one-half day was scheduled. We did a meet and greet when the children arrived, deployed to classrooms where needed, did individual comfort to students and staff, and participated in an assembly. After the students were dismissed, we participated in a debriefing with faculty and staff.
